First of all, he’s not a well guy. He has back problems. He’s got a pinched nerve. He’s got fibromyalgia. He’s in a lot of pain and he takes a lot of painkillers and other pills for other assorted problems. So I was patient and understanding at first. But he has been telling me lately that it’s impossible for him to sleep at night, which means he must sleep all day. And he’s been doing this for a couple of months now. And it’s getting worse … I used to see him for a couple of hours per day, but now, nothing.
We have a toddler with special needs that I watch all day. And more recently I’ve been trying to work during the day also, while watching her. I feel that he’s avoiding the responsibility, that he’s fine with watching TV all night while we sleep.
So it possible he actually has something else wrong with him? I keep telling him to mention this to the doctors, but he never does.

1With all those symptoms, it’s pretty ‘normal’ to have weird sleeping patterns. He’s probably sleeping during the day because when he tries to sleep at night, his body wont let him. Insomnia is a typical symptom of fibromyalgia. I would imagine that he’s probably got some sort of depression/anxiety/bipolarism or something going on as well.
It’s going to take some time for him to get the right combination of drugs to help him get well. I have most of what he has too and I’m taking the time to cleanse my system by drinking lots of water and increasing my fiber intake. It helps considerably. The debilitating pain that fibromyalgia can put you through diminishes once you’ve gotten rid of excess toxins in your body. Really, most of what causes you to be as stiff as you are with this condition is the amount of toxins in your muscles.
Suggest to him drinking 64 oz of water a day and taking up to 8 grams of fiber a day. Tell him to do this for about a month and see how he feels. I guarantee you, he’ll feel much better.
Oh and tell him to take a walk once in a while. It really helps to get things moving.
Take care and be there for this friend. He will need you.

2if he can sleep during the day–he should be able to retrain himself to sleep at nigth instead—its not easy–but doable–
it involves resetting the bodys clock—if he normally goes to sleep at 8am–the next day it is 9am–than 10am–until he completely pushes his clock to sleeping at night–at that point he needs to practice good sleep hygiene –and not let himself fall too far off schedule
