Posted by Fibromyalgia Support as Fibromyalgia-Symptoms
i haven’t been officially diagnosed with fibromyalgia, partly because i don’t have health insurance and have been unable to afford a doctor visit and partly because i’m afraid that yet another doctor will tell me it’s all in my head. for years i thought it was, until i really started reading up on FM. so far just about every symptom i’ve been experiencing correlates to the disease, and most of the symptoms if the disease are what i’m dealing with.
one thing i haven’t seen on the websites yet is another symptom i commonly suffer. i will have a swollen and painful area appear in random areas of my body, sometimes on the top of my hand just above the wrist, sometimes my shoulder, ankle, knee, neck, hips etc…
this is not joint pain, the swelling is usually cool to the touch and soft, and hurts inside as well as out. for example if it’s on the top of my hand, the swollen area hurts as though bruised and the tendons also hurt, to move my hand or fingers and so on.
it gets so painful that it makes normal activities unbearable and it’s so random and sudden, and i have seen it hurt in my shoulder one day and travel (so to speak) to my elbow, my wrist, my fingers before finally going away. am i crazy? is this another symptom of the fibro?

2It’s possible. So what are you doing for yourself now that you think you may have fibromyalgia? Have you tried doing more exercise to get it worked back out of your system? If not I suggest you do. You have to get into running a mile a day to help yourself or swim for about 15 minutes a day. The exercise is about the same. And it will help. In about a week or two you should notice a decrease in the sypmtoms or none at all. Continue to exercise to keep it away for good. Drink lots of water and cut out the sugars, they will make the symptoms worse.

3fibromyalgia is usually the first thing people worry about when they’ve got pain and fatigue, but definitely go back and see the doctor. ask for a thyroid function test - particularly if no doctor thought to do this for you in the past. Hashimoto’s disease will cause random swelling, painful joints and dreadful fatigue - as well as many other symptoms - because an underactive thyroid gland affects every system in your body. have you had dry hair that seems to break a lot? treatment is with replacement hormones if that’s the cause. google it and see if it explains your symptoms a little better. I hope you feel well soon.
