When I need med refills I usually can call my doctors office and they can call in the refill to my pharmacy, but today I called because I was out of my Lyrica for fibromyalgia, and the receptionist told me that I’d have to pick up the prescription from the doctor’s office, and that she was not able to call in the prescription. Does anyone know why? Is it because of the type of medication? This is the only one of my meds that she said I must pick up the paper prescription for. Thanks in advance!

1lyrica is under the controlled substances act, so you have to get a new prescription each time, the pharmacist cannot call for refills on controlled substances.

2Lyrica is a controlled substance, but it is not a C-2. Therefore, it can be called in without any problems.

3Lyrica is a schedule V controlled substance according to the Controlled Substances Act. Which means that while have only a low potential for abuse, it still can lead to physical and/or psychological dependence along with fairly serious withdraw effects. Because of Lyrica getting this level of scheduling, although very low, getting a prescription filled is a more closely restricted and monitored process.
