I feel it can be taken on an as needed basis. In fact I would recommend that so that you don't build up the tolerance to it. If you have any further questions please let me know. It can be taken on an as needed basis though. I know this because it makes me very drowsy sometimes and if I have something important to do I won't take it. I would however, take it for 2 or 3 wks to get it into your system real well. That way, when you need to take it effect it will do so efficently.
