Have you another primary diagnosis??? Have you reasearched the mysterious, untreatable symptoms for yourself or do you take the word of you physician?
Dawn… what type of treatment were you receiving for Bipolar Disorder? It wouldn’t happen to have been Lithium would it???

1i know it is real.
i have researched yslef-
i figured out before my docs taht it was a disorder of the central nervous system.
I had a seizure 6 years ago that reset my brain and reversed teh symptoms–they have slowly come back–
meds that regualate the nervous system do show promise
i do not have another systemic diagnosis–only localized arthritis from injuries—-no depression…..
the best doc I found admits he knows nothing and works as my partner–not my boss

2I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1999. I was also being treated for bipolar disorder at the time. Since then it has been discovered that my son who suffered from severe mental illness has a genetic inborn error of metabolism which is possibly secondary to mitochondrial dysfunction. Our metabolic specialist believes that both of us have mitochondrial disease which is also genetic. I will be having a muscle biopsy and possibly some other tests in a couple of months.
I do not believe fibro to be a primary diagnosis any more than a headache is primary. I believe it to be a symptom.

4Some physicians think "fibromyalgia" is synonymous with "nut case". That may not really be fair, though- there is still soooo much we don’t understand about how our bodies work.
